The story so far…
The dream began with wheel throwing lessons from a friend in 2020. A pregnant belly and a wild 2 year old running around the studio couldn’t slow down Carolyn’s instant love of clay.
With a lot of help from her very handy husband, a home studio was set up, opening onto the garden. It is a shared space between pottery, two cocker spaniels, a 4 year old and a 2 year old - and remarkably some work also gets done! So much joy is found in the studio, from just a glance out the door to see the flowers that will end up in the vases being created.. Or listening to her daughter singing along to Disney tunes while they both play with the clay.
After a year of self guided learning and many mistakes, figuring out how to mix glazes, fire an ancient kiln, improve and refine forms, finally Ruby Sunday Ceramics was created.
With a lot of love and support from friends and family, it got off the ground and onto Instagram, and now this very website! 2023 has also brought an exciting opportunity to collaborate with another local artist, with a collection planned for release later in the year.
The love of experimentation, and the little voice asking “I wonder what would happen if I just tried this..” is as strong as ever. So look forward to many new and different forms, glazes, and techniques being explored as Ruby Sunday Ceramics continues to blossom.
I hope that you love your Ruby Sunday pot
as much as I have loved making it,
and the curiosity and care that has gone into it
brings a smile to your day
Carolyn
